One of the things I love about this job is the opportunity to be able to attend inspiring events and contribute in multiple ways in charities and actions that work for a better world. One of them was the Yes Chef! event by the charity Action for Children which took place at the Glasgow Marriott Hotel earlier this month. To be honest, I wasn’t aware of this charity before and I accepted the invitation by the organisers not knowing exactly what to expect. I even dragged my husband along to join me and he was joking that it wouldn’t be a highlight of our nights out. Well, I am so thrilled to tell you that this event had us both jumping up and down with excitement and inspiration and we have promised to book our own table next year.
The focus of the event is working with disadvantaged young people and helping them learn new skills while opening the door to job opportunities. Action for Children Scotland has played an important role in reducing levels of reoffending in young men leaving prison. Host of the evening was the one and only Des Clarke and entertainment was provided by Gavin Pearson.
Let’s talk about the food. There were two teams: Red and Blue. Red Team cooked: Roast root vegetable soup, Medallion of slow cured ham and Vanilla Cheesecake. Blue Team cooked: Melon & Feta Salad, Chicken breast wrapped in smoked bacon and Strawberry Torte with orange cream. Yum! The red team won but it was a close one. We were so honoured to join the Marriott managers and organisers at the table and also hang out with the wonderful Lyndsay, food blogger from Girl versus Food. We cannot wait for next year’s event.
